"LEARNING" - JASON FOBISTER
Jason Fobister lives in the First Nations Reserve of Grassy Narrows in Canada. His art is inspired by nature, humanity and love.
This painting is dedicated to all the mentors in our lives. It was inspired the life story of a principal and the sacrifices educators make for their students. This gentleman battled through cancer and he just loved teaching kids. I was asked to paint for his farewell from the school after teaching for 30 years and I didn’t know what I was going to paint. His life story is pretty amazing, and I decided to paint a tree as it provides shelter to others. It had to be strong, and I started mixing my golds and my bronze colors. I could see the life of a teacher is so vibrant, so I painted the leaves red. I added a book in front of that tree because that is his life and his life is about teaching and helping people to learn. I wrote a page and a half in that book, and I left half of the page empty. It is a symbolic reference that the story of life has to be written completely as a human and the story goes on.
